Abortion is not your only option for your unplanned pregnancy. You have two other choices, but both require you to carry your pregnancy to full term.

Take a closer look at the potential physical and emotional risks of abortion and the possibility of another choice. It’s entirely up to you. We can help with factual information and a listening ear.

Are There Risks With Abortion?

Having an abortion is a major medical decision. You need to get as much information as possible about procedures, side effects, and potential risks. How long you have been pregnant determines the type of procedure you have.

The FDA only approves the use of abortion pill drugs through 10 weeks of pregnancy. The farther along you are, the less effective the drugs become. Knowing the number of weeks of pregnancy is essential.

Potential risks include:

  • Incomplete abortion, which may need to be followed by surgical abortion
  • An ongoing pregnancy if the procedure doesn’t work
  • Heavy and prolonged bleeding
  • Infection
  • Fever

How long you’ve been pregnant also determines the surgical abortion procedure. Most surgical abortions require dilating (opening) your cervix (which leads to the uterus) and either local or general anesthesia.

The abortion provider uses a suction device, as well as medical instruments like a curette (a small scraping tool) or forceps to remove larger parts.

Potential risks include:

  • Perforation of the uterus
  • Damage to the cervix
  • Scar tissue on the uterine wall
  • Infection

What Are My Other Choices?

You have two other choices for your pregnancy: adoption and parenting.

Adoption

Have you thought about making an adoption plan? Most people know very little about adoption. It’s changed dramatically in the last 30 years.

Today, the birth parents choose the adoptive couple and the future they want for their child. If the birth father is no longer involved, you can select the family on your own.

It costs nothing for a birth mother to place her child for adoption. In fact, the adoption coordinator you choose ensures that all of your prenatal and childbirth expenses are covered.

Your legal fees are covered, too. In some circumstances, you could receive help with your rent, utilities, maternity clothing, food, etc.

Adoption is not an easy choice. You need to ensure the adoption coordinator you work with has your best interests at heart. You need thorough adoption counseling before, during, and after placement.

Parenting

Many women don’t consider parenting because they feel they don’t have the resources. Parenting comes with challenges, but you might be surprised by the available assistance.

We offer no-cost parenting and life skills classes. As you take classes, you earn credits to “purchase” items in our Baby Boutique. We offer everything from diapers and wipes to car seats. It’s the perfect way to get prepared.

In addition, there are many community programs to assist you. Schedule an appointment to discuss your needs and what is available.

Make an Appointment

We encourage you to make an appointment with one of our caring client advocates. We can talk about your situation to see if parenting or making an adoption plan is right for you. You can also get more information about abortion procedures, side effects, and potential risks.

Do you need one-on-one mentoring and support? We can provide that, too. Your appointment is entirely confidential, so you can feel free to discuss it all. Contact us today.
