The pressure of an unplanned pregnancy is enough without the additional stress of your partner wanting you to make a specific decision. How you handle your pregnancy is your decision.
No one can legally force you to make a choice you do not want to make. Find out more about your options to determine which is right for you.
Your Three Options
To make a confident decision, learn as much as possible about your pregnancy options. You have three: have an abortion, make an adoption plan, or choose to parent.
Have an Abortion
Does your partner feel like an abortion makes the “problem” go away? Abortion is a major medical decision with the possibility of physical and emotional consequences. Knowing what to expect is vital.
If you’re considering using abortion drugs (the abortion pill method), be aware of the potential side effects and risks. The FDA approves this method through 10 weeks of pregnancy only. Are you positive you know how far along you are in your pregnancy?
Some women also struggle emotionally from an abortion. Make sure you understand how abortion could affect you mentally, too.
Make an Adoption Plan
Many myths surround adoption. Here are some facts to consider when it comes to making an adoption plan for your child:
- It costs you nothing to place a child for adoption.
- You can choose the potential adoptive couple.
- You can build an ongoing relationship with your child and their adoptive family.
- All of your medical and legal expenses are covered.
- In addition, you may receive assistance with housing, utilities, groceries, clothing, etc.
- You make a plan for your child’s future.
- You are free to change your mind at any time up until you sign legal papers.
