Any decision-making process can take time and effort. But when it comes to an unplanned pregnancy, the stakes may feel much higher.

Having had a past abortion may change your perspective of this pregnancy. You may be seeking another option but are unsure where to find information.

Pee Dee Pregnancy Resource Center is here for you. Do you have questions about adoption or parenting? We’re here for you with confidential services at no cost.

I Want to Continue My Pregnancy But Don’t Wish To Parent.

While parenting may seem like a great option to some, it isn’t the best choice for others. And that’s okay. There is another option: adoption.

Adoption allows you to continue your pregnancy, but instead of parenting your child, you’ll place them in a loving family. This option isn’t “giving up” on your child, nor does it stem from a lack of love.

Choosing to place your child in another family means you’re committed to giving them a bright future. Adoption isn’t a choice to feel ashamed about—it’s a brave one.

When you choose adoption, you won’t pay for any adoption, pregnancy, or birth-related expenses. You may be entitled to additional material and emotional support.

Adoption Options

As the birth mother, you have the final say. You can select the adoptive family and choose an adoption plan. There are three to pick from:

  • Open Adoption: With an open adoption, you’ll have direct contact with the adoptive family and child. Your child will know your importance in their life.
  • Semi-Open Adoption: A semi-open adoption allows for contact, but it occurs through a third party, such as an adoption attorney or agency.
  • Closed Adoption: You won’t have contact with the family or child in a closed adoption. All identifying records remain sealed, and you’ll stay anonymous.

If you choose adoption, help is available. We can discuss whether this option is right for you.

I Want to Continue My Pregnancy and Raise My Child.

Is parenting right for you? The answer may feel complicated. Your current situation may seem impossible, and you may have doubts about raising a child.

It’s important to ask yourself what resources you have to raise a child, including:

  • Food
  • Clothing
  • A dependable income
  • Childcare
  • A safe, stable home environment
  • Ability to access medical care
  • Support system (especially if you’d be a single parent)

Next, you can use the answers to determine what you’d need to parent successfully. Know there’s hope, even if you feel uncertain about your next steps.

We’re here to help you weigh the pros and cons of parenting. Pee Dee Pregnancy Resource Center staff will provide you with educational classes on pregnancy, prenatal care, childbirth, parenting, relationships, life skills, and more.
