When Should I Take a Pregnancy Test?
When pregnant, your body produces a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). A pregnancy test detects the hCG hormone in your urine or blood.
To get accurate results, you must wait until enough hCG builds up in your body to be detected. A pregnancy test can sometimes detect hCG around the 10th or 11th day after conception, but it’s best to wait until the day your period should start (around day 14) before taking a test.
Do I need An ultrasound?
An ultrasound is an important step of the pregnancy confirmation process. Once you’ve confirmed your pregnancy with a lab-quality pregnancy test, be sure to get an ultrasound to confirm three things:
1. How far along you are in your pregnancy
2. The location of your pregnancy (if it’s located within your uterus)
3. Confirm viability (whether your pregnancy is healthy and has a heartbeat)
Experts say that up to 20 % of known pregnancies end in a natural miscarriage. You can get a positive pregnancy test result for days or even weeks after a miscarriage. Ultrasound can determine if the pregnancy is viable.
Can I Bring Someone With Me to My Appointment?
Absolutely! We encourage women to bring their partners along with them to their appointment so they can have clarity in the process as well. It’s important for your partner to know about all pregnancy options.
If you can’t bring your partner, you are also free to bring another family member or friend! It’s completely up to you.
