A late period is usually one of the early signs of pregnancy, but a change in your menstrual cycle can happen for many reasons. Increased stress or exercise, a hormonal imbalance, certain medications, or a severe drop in weight can all stop your monthly periods.
See if you experience any of these other common early pregnancy symptoms.
Early Pregnancy Symptoms
Just like a woman’s menstrual cycle, every pregnancy is unique. Some women experience pregnancy symptoms immediately, while others don’t experience any for several weeks or even months.
The Mayo Clinic lists the following as some of the additional early signs of pregnancy:
- Tender, swollen breasts—hormonal changes might make your breasts sensitive and sore
- Nausea, with or without vomiting—this symptom is also known as “morning sickness” but can occur at any time of the day or night
- Increased urination occurs when the amount of blood in the body increases, causing the kidneys to process extra fluid that ends up in the bladder
- Fatigue—a rapid rise in hormone levels could be the cause
Other signs mentioned by the Mayo Clinic:
- Moodiness
- Bloating
- Light spotting
- Cramping
- Constipation
- Food aversions
- Nasal congestion
It’s important to note that many of these symptoms could be caused by other health issues. For instance, you could feel nauseous because you have the flu or need to urinate more frequently because of a urinary tract infection.
